March
March is finally here and I am really, really ready for a perfect Vineyard summer day like the one captured above by local photographer Larry Glick. It’s usually right around this time every year, when I start to feel like I’ve embraced the quiet and cold of winter for long enough. Not that I’m counting, but summer is 111 days away and this year I get to bring in my favorite season by coordinating a solstice wedding! This one will be filled with lots of locals, and an incredible team of vendors - On Time Catering, Marta’s Kitchen MV, and Sheny Leon Photography to name a few. I am so excited and honored to get to work on all of the events we have booked for the upcoming season, and I cannot wait to share more about them with all of you!
February felt like it lasted for exactly one eternity, but the waves of warmer temperatures and sunshine over the last week or so shed some hope that spring is near. If you couldn’t tell, I am the type that kind of lives for summer, but there is something really special about springtime on MV. The anticipation in the air as us locals prepare for the busy season is palpable. Seasonal businesses start to re-upon their doors and Crocuses and Daffodils emerge from the ground. We’ll be hit with those random warm days and the shoes might even come off during a beach walk.
I want to take a moment here to thank the year-round establishments on MV for braving another winter. If you live here, you have been involved in some version of a conversation with someone who doesn’t and you might’ve explained that yes, human life does exist on this little island all year long. We are much more than that picturesque summer playground for the rich and famous- rather a predominantly working class community and a pretty vibrant one at that. Even still, it isn’t easy to keep your business open here through the winter season with the dramatic decrease in foot traffic and cash flow. So if you are reading this from the Vineyard, remember to show those businesses some extra love.
For me, March will be filled with working to get ahead of the game for those early summer events that will kick off my season. I will also be meeting with and joining the MV Chamber of Commerce, and I am so excited to further my connections with local business owners. On the non-business end of things I am hoping for some backyard bonfires, a few more cozy game nights, and a lot more sunshine.
See you in April!
